THE ARRIVAL OF THE CHINESE NAVY

On March 23 2016, whilst in pursuit of the illegal driftnet vessel, the Fu Yuan Yu 076, The MV Steve Irwin was approached by two warships of the Chinese Navy.

The vessels questioned the Steve Irwin as to why it was in Chinese waters chasing a Chinese vessel. Captain Siddharth Chakravarty responded, outlining the illegal history of the Fu Yuan Yu fleet and announcing his intention to continue his pursuit of the Fu Yuan Yu 076.

Upon receiving the information, the warships have left the Steve Irwin, allowing the mission to continue.

The Steve Irwin now remains in pursuit of the Fu Yuan Yu 076, and continues to relay information about the ship’s movements and operations to relevant authorities, as the vessels inch closer to China.

SEA SHEPHERD INTERCEPTS FLEET OF ILLEGAL FISHING VESSELS. HIGH SEAS PURSUIT NOW UNDERWAY.

For the second time since January, the Steve Irwin, has intercepted a fleet of six illegal fishing vessels, the Fu Yuan Yu fleet, in the Indian Ocean.

Under the command of Captain Siddharth Chakravarty, the Sea Shepherd ship has now engaged in a pursuit of one of the ships, the Fu Yuan YU 076.

SEA SHEPHERD RELEASES SHOCKING FOOTAGE OF ILLEGAL FISHING IN THE INDIAN OCEAN. LAUNCHES NEW CAMPAIGN, OPERATION DRIFTNET.

In January 2016, Sea Shepherd's Flagship the Steve Irwin found an illegal driftnet operation in the Indian Ocean. When confronted, the poachers abandoned a section of their net, which was then hauled in by the Steve Irwin and its crew from the ocean with the bodies of 321 animals entangled in it.
 
Today, Sea Shepherd Global launches Operation Driftnet with the aim to shut down this illegal operation. 

Sea Shepherd expects to engage with the fleet of illegal vessels in the coming days.
